Medical Radiation Technologists
To practice in NL as a Medical Radiation Technologists or a X- Ray Health Professional, you must apply for and have confirmation that your registration is approved before commencing work on May 1, 2025. Your registration is with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP).
Registration opens on February 1, 2025. On this date, NLCHP will begin receiving and processing applications. Please ensure to have your application and all required documentation submitted to NLCHP via email by the administrative deadline of April 1, 2025, to avoid a late fee of $75.00 which will be applied to all applications received on April 1, 2025, at 00:01 (NST). NLCHP will receive applications until April 30th, however they will be subject to a late fee.
Completion of the Application for Registration requires you submit the following documentation with your application via email to registration@nlchp.ca.
- Application, complete with credit card information for registration fees payment. Applications (PDF fillable) are available on NLCHP home page.
- Color Photo ID (Driver’s License or Passport)
- Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check dated within 6 months of your application date (originals must be forwarded to NLCHP office via mail following submission via email.
MRTs only: Proof of successful completion of National Exam(s) for each discipline in which you are applying.
- Proof of professional liability insurance (PLI): MRTs must have a minimum of $ 500,000 PLI
- Certificates of completion of the required online courses (MRT’s: General Status only)

- Provide a Verification of Registration/Letter of Good Standing (s): These letters must be sent directly to NLCHP from the Regulatory Body. For more information please see the Policy – Letter of Good Standing. Please provide the jurisdiction (s) with NLCHP’s Request Form: Letter of Good Standing.
MRT and X – Ray Health Professional – Limited status only: Official Transcripts/Proof of Education program completion for each discipline in which you are applying, directly from your educational institution to the NLCHP.
- Letter from your employer confirming that you have practiced applicable number of hours in the previous four years.
MRT
- If you are applying for registration in 1 discipline, you are required to have at least 1000 hours of medical radiation technology practice in that discipline.
- If you are applying for registration in 2 disciplines, you are required to have at least 1000 hours of medical radiation technology practice with at least 400 hours in each of the disciplines for which you are applying.
- If you are applying for registration in 3 or 4 disciplines, you are required to have at least 400 hours in each of the disciplines for which you are applying.
X – Ray Health Professional
Employed for at least 400 hours of x -ray work over four (4) consecutive years immediately preceding registration. Registrants must include hours of work for four calendar years (January 1 to December 31) preceding application.

You will receive an email from NLCHP once your application is approved.
Your name has been added to the List of Registered Health Professionals on May 1, 2025. Please check this list on May 1, 2025, to confirm your registration.
You are not able to commence employment until your name has been added to the NLCHP List of Registered Health Professionals.
Individuals who practice without a valid practicing license will be subject to a penalty of $100/per day worked and where the period of practice exceeds three days from and including the 1st day will be subject to discipline in accordance with Part V of the Health Professions Act (2010).
