Speech-Language Pathologists
New graduates from Canadian Accredited programs must register and write the National Canadian Entry – To – Practice exam (CETP) at the next setting of the exam offered by SAC (see exam schedule) https://www.sac-oac.ca/joining-the-profession/cetp-exams/writing-the-cetp-exams/.
If you are scheduled to complete or have completed the National Canadian Entry – To – Practice exam (CETP) and are waiting on results, you will be granted a general status temporary registration until such time as you provide the NLCHP with proof of success in the exam. If you are not successful, your general status temporary registration will be revoked.
Completion of the Application for Registration in the NLCHP Portal requires you upload the following documentation:
- Color Photo ID (Driver’s License or Passport)
- Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check dated within three months of your application date (originals must be forwarded to NLCHP office after uploading)
- Proof of professional liability insurance (PLI)– SLPs must have a minimum of $2,000,000 PLI
- Certificates of completion of the required online courses:
(1) Custodian-Direct Contact with Personal Health Information available on http://nlchi.skillbuilder.ca/home
(2) Direct Contact with Personal Health Information available on http://nlchi.skillbuilder.ca/home and
(3) Jurisprudence Education for your Health Profession available at chplearning.ca
You must also:
- Ensure that Official Transcripts/Proof of Education program completion and signed clinical practicum documents (Information required includes clinical hours completed with type and age of workload) are sent directly from your educational institution to the NLCHP
- If you would like to begin your application before final transcripts are available, the education institution you have graduated from must send the NLCHP a letter indicating you have met all requirements for graduation. It is your responsibility to ensure that official transcripts are sent to the NLCHP when they are available
- Apply to write the CETP Exam through the SAC website: https://www.sac-oac.ca/joining-the-profession/cetp-exams/writing-the-cetp-exams/
- The “conditional enrollment” for graduates from Canadian Accredited Programs as outlined on the SAC website was adopted by the NLCHP, therefore graduates from Canadian Accredited Programs may enroll for the CETP Exams during the exam enrollment period
- Proof of successful completion of CETP Exam (or date of writing)
- Pay a $60.00 non-refundable application fee
- Submit Mentorship Guidance Contract to CASLPNL. For more information: https://caslpnl.ca/pathways-registration
- Await confirmation of general status temporary registration from NLCHP before commencing employment
- Pass the CETP Exam and upload to the NLCHP Portal proof of successful completion. At this point , your status will be changed to general status (restricted).
- Upon completion of mentorship requirements, provide the NLCHP with proof of completion. At this point , your status will be changed to general status.
NLCHP will notify you by email that your application for registration has been reviewed and request you to login to the NLCHP Portal to pay your registration fees. You will receive an email once your application is approved and your name has been added to the List of Registered Health Professionals. You are then eligible to practice in Newfoundland and Labrador. You are not able to commence employment, which includes orientation until your name has been added to the NLCHP List of Registered Health Professionals.
