Internationally Educated MRTs
If you have been educated as an MRT outside of Canada, you can complete the following steps to become registered as an MRT in Newfoundland and Labrador. Please send all MRT applications to registration@nlchp.ca.
Step 1 – Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRT) Assessment Process and CAMRT National Certification MRT Examination
You first need to have your MRT education and clinical work experience assessed through the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). CAMRT assesses internationally educated MRTs through their IEMRT assessment process. To learn more about the IEMRT assessment process, please visit CAMRT.
After successful completion of the IEMRT assessment process, you will be eligible to write the CAMRT National Certification MRT Examination. In order to register as an MRT in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, you must demonstrate proof that you have successfully completed the IEMRT assessment process, and have passed the CAMRT National Examination.
Once you have successfully passed the CAMRT National Certification MRT Examination, you can then begin the application for registration for Medical Radiation Technologists with NLCHP.
Step 2 – Apply for registration with the NLCHP
To apply for registration, you will be required to complete an application form and pay a $125.00 non-refundable application fee. Completion of the Application for Registration requires you to submit the following documentation:
The ID must not be expired, and the photo/scan that is submitted must be clearly legible.
The Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check must be dated within 6 months of your application date. The NLCHP requires the original document(s) be forwarded to the NLCHP office via mail or drop off following submission of your application.
You must provide proof that you have successfully completed the National Certification Exam.
Proof of professional liability insurance (PLI) must show your name, dates of coverage, and amount of coverage. MRTs must have a minimum of $ 5,000,000 PLI
Certificates of completion are required for the following online courses. Courses must be completed withing 3 months of the date your application is submitted.

You must have official transcripts/proof of education program completion sent directly from your educational institution to the NLCHP. You must also submit a government issued document to verify the transcript if your name has changed since the completion of your program.
Proof of practice hours can come in the form of a letter from your employer confirming that you have practiced applicable number of hours in the previous four years.
If you are applying for registration in 1 discipline, you are required to have at least 1000 hours of medical radiation technology practice in that discipline.
If you are applying for registration in 2 disciplines, you are required to have at least 1000 hours of medical radiation technology practice with at least 400 hours in each of the disciplines for which you are applying.
If you are applying for registration in 3 or 4 disciplines, you are required to have at least 400 hours in each of the disciplines for which you are applying.
Individuals currently or previously registered to practice in another jurisdiction must provide a Verification of Registration/Letter of Good Standing (s): These letters must be sent directly to NLCHP from the Regulatory Body. For more information please see the Policy – Letter of Good Standing. Please provide the jurisdiction (s) with NLCHP’s Request Form: Letter of Good Standing.
Once your application is approved, your name will be added to the List of Registered Health Professionals on the NLCHP website. Please reference the list to confirm your registration. You are not able to commence employment until your name has been added to the NLCHP List of Registered Health Professionals.
Individuals who practice without a valid practicing license will be subject to a penalty of $100/per day worked and where the period of practice exceeds three days from and including the 1st day will be subject to discipline in accordance with Part V of the Health Professions Act (2010).
